Episode 5
Sort of took a break from Five Parsecs. Got caught up in a game of Stargrave with my son (blogged here ) and then a sort of hyrbid game combining Stargrave with One Page Rules Grindark Future Firefight/Star Quest (not blogged for some reason).
After the salvage op (Episode 4) the crew of the Starlight Vanguard traveled to Nexus - 9, a bustling Starport on Nexus Prime. Story wise this is where the crew originally met be prior to Turn one. The trip was uneventful, Rax repaired some salvaged weapons they had on hand. Upon landing Captain Voss proudly marched over to Voidreaver Vaults (a front for the syndicate for sure) and paid off the ship dept in full. They did not seem very happy about it (no more interest payments). As she was exiting the bank her private comms chimed. Message informing her that Starfire's Freelance License had expired and 6 credits were due if they wanted it re-instated....that seemed highly suspicious...damn criminals ran this star-port, hell the whole planet. She complied and immediately sent queries for job opportunities. Other crew went about training and exploration and some trade. Two of them got in such a vicious fight that I had to spend a story point to avoid serious calamity and a long stay in med bay.
Not off to a great start....
Voss quickly heard back from a wealthy business owner...urgent job offer with danger pay. Local K'Erin criminals putting pressure on her fast food operation...wanting protection money. Could the Starfire Scoundrels let them know this was not appreciated? Benefit...more jobs to come (persistent patron). Stick it to some criminals...indeed.
I was worried about this job as I rolled up some pretty tough adversaries, K'Erin Outlaws with a Heavy that was a Unique Individual a specialist and a lieutenant. One even was toting a rattlegun. But it turned out to be a pretty short lived but fierce firefight with the K'Erin breaking in the 3rd round as their reinforcements arrived.
I had just finished building some color printed terrain from Warsenal (can't recommend enough) so decided to use the Xiguan Vendor Flat as the building we were protecting (Fight off mission)
This fight went fast as the dice were with me. We seized the initiative (security training paying off) and Lyra "Hex" Tanis took out the rattlegun operator who was exactly in her range. The rest of the crew moved into pretty good positions. Round One I rolled very well on the reaction roll and four members of my crew went, Hex moving up and dispatching the lieutenant, Voss shooting and stunning the unique K'Erin and Rax and Elias making it to the top of the Vendor Flat. Voss got lit up but some how survived just stunned twice. Round two was a blood bath, leaving only two pistol wielding K'Erin hunkered in a shop doorway. Reinforcements arrived but did not stay long. Jax sprayed one of the two in hiding in the door way with her machine pistol, killing him and Voss finished the other with her shotgun. One of the reinforcements was downed by one of our snipers and the other reinforcement moved up, had no shot and then made a tactical retreat in panic. I think Voss got shot at 7 times and only received 3 stun markers. Wow.
